Our
Services
The STTAR Center provides specialized services to trauma
victims in Howard County and surrounding communities. Through
our crisis intervention services, we help victims cope
with the immediate impact of trauma and to access community
resources. Through our clinical services, we help victims
onto the road to recovery and improve their daily functioning.
Through our education services, we raise awareness of the
impact of trauma on victims, families, co-workers, and
communities.
Clinical Services
- Play therapy for child victims
- Individual psychotherapy for adolescent and adult victims
- Parent counseling to address secondary trauma and support child victim’s recovery
- Spouse, partner or significant other counseling to address secondary trauma and support adult victim’s recovery.
- Time-limited psychotherapy groups are offered when demand is sufficient for child, adolescent or adult victims who have experienced a similar type of trauma.
Crisis Intervention Services
- Crisis counselors provide information and support to trauma victims through our 24-hour hotline: 410-997-3292
- Our staff collaborates with Howard County General Hospital to provide emergency room services to rape and sexual assault victims.
- We offer crisis counseling and emotional support to crime victims participating in Howard County criminal court proceedings.
- We assist crime victims in applying for compensation from the Maryland Criminal Injuries Compensation Board.
Education Services
- The STTAR Center provides professional training to first responders and community organizations that serve, or come in contact with, trauma victims.
- We provide community education through health and human-service fairs, awareness-raising events, and through the extensive resources available on the Educators section of our website.
