Military PTSD for active duty, family members and veterans
STTAR Center Staff Receive Special Training
The clinicians at STTAR Center have received special training to assist those returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. STTAR Center has been treating survivors of psychological trauma for many years now. With the tremendous need voiced by those close to the war effort in Iraq and Afghanistan, STTAR staff felt this is an area that their expertise in trauma work might come in handy. STTAR Center clinicians and executive staff have attended trainings hosted by the local Mental Health Authorities in Howard, Anne Arundel, and Montgomery Counties, the American Psychological Association, and the Department of Defense on the subject of providing treatment for (PTSD) post-traumatic stress disorder for those affected by the current wars. To ensure that STTAR is able to provide this treatment, STTAR Center has clinicians trained in CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and EMDR (Eye Movement Descensitization and Reproccessing), both recognized as suitable modalities of treatment for PTSD. STTAR also is very experienced in working with families in the area of trauma that affects the family unit. Therefore, STTAR welcomes family members of military personnel that are in need of assistance in working through the affects of the trauma their loved ones have experienced.
To be accessible to military personnel and their families STTAR Center applied and was accepted to TriCare, the insurance provider for most military personnel and their dependents. STTAR Center provides individual therapy for adults and children, as well as group therapy. STTAR will introduce group therapy time slots for the returning military in late spring. Groups for family members are also being planned. Please contact info@sttarcenter.org for more information.
